A proven leader, Eric is committed to working to improve West Virginia's job creating environment. Prior to joining Nelson Enterprises, Eric was co-founding General Partner of Mountaineer Capital, LP, headquartered in Charleston, West Virginia, which was West Virginia's largest licensed Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) venture capital/private equity fund. The fund's portfolio included equity and debt investments in small private companies located in West Virginia and the contiguous states. Eric was responsible for sourcing, underwriting, and managing portfolio investments.
Prior to Mountaineer, Eric was Treasurer of City Holding Company, Charleston, West Virginia, a multi-bank holding company from 1991 – 2000.. He was a member of the executive management team with direct responsibility for asset liability management, cash and investment portfolio management, and the broker dealer subsidiary. From 1983-1991, Eric held positions as a Director of the Investment Banking/Corporate Finance Division and as a Vice President in the Real Estate Finance Division at Crestar Bank in Richmond, Virginia.
Eric obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Accounting from Washington and Lee University in 1983. He was elected class president in 1982 and 1983 and was a 4 year letterman on the track team, co-captain his senior year. Eric is a 2000 graduate of the Venture Capital Institute and a 2001 graduate of Leadership West Virginia. In 2002, he received an Accredited Valuation Analyst (AVA) certification from the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA). Eric graduated from George Washington High School in 1979, where he lettered in track and basketball and was co-captain of both teams his senior year.
Eric's business and professional affiliations include a directorship with Wesbanco Bank, Inc., a board member of the Clay Center, a board member of the Charleston Civic Center, a member of the World Presidents Organization, a member of the Independent Oil and Gas Association, and a member of the National Conference of State Legislators Taxation Task Force. Eric is a member of First Presbyterian Church in Charleston where he has served as an Elder as well as President of the Trustees. Eric is a member of the Rotary Club of Charleston, the National Rifle Association, the West Virginia Farm Bureau, the Masonic Lodge 153, the Scottish Rite, and a former volunteer church basketball and junior high golf team coach. Former volunteer positions included Trustee for the Avampato Permanent Endowment Fund, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Holz Elementary School Academic Fund, and Board positions on The Fund for the Arts, Community Council, and Shawnee Hills.
